About
World Poverty and Human Rights Online was created by Mark Wells as a class project in the class by the same name at Harvard University Extension School. It has since evolved into the “publishing arm” of the class, giving students the opportunity to have their work viewed by a worldwide audience. For more information on the mission, design philosophy, and intent behind wphr.org, please read through our white paper.

Welcome to World Poverty and Human Rights!
This site was inspired by, and created as a final project submission for the Humanities Course by the same name at Harvard, taught by Professor Stephen Marks, Professor Ajay Mahal, and Dr. Melanie Adrian, as well as Emmanuel Bagenda and Dr. Bonnie Talbert.
The goal is to provide a forum for discussing poverty in a human rights and development context, and to provide a real-time repository for ongoing gross human rights violations and the effects of extreme poverty.
Every effort will be made to make this accessible via any available means including mobile devices. This is meant to encourage participation from individuals in the regions concerned whenever possible, with careful consideration given to the fact that the ONLY means of access may via mobile devices or very slow / outdated technology.
Simplicity is key here.
We do however encourage you to upload pictures and other media depicting the ongoing plight of the world’s poor and oppressed. We will strive to maintain a balance between the positive goal of putting a real face on the problem of poverty and oppression, and becoming a “horror show” repository for prurient interest.
We encourage you to create a free account and become a contributor. All that is required is a valid email address which will always be kept confidential. Simply click the “Register” link at the top right of the page, and fill in the blanks.
There is also a WPHR White Paper available with a description of the technical and functional goals and operational details of wphr.org.
Thank you for visiting our site, and we look forward to hearing from you!
